Minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday 5th March 2008

 

Present: Karen Bale (KB), Karen Bown (KBo),  Will Hedges (WH), Austin Williams (AW), Ray Dauncey (RaD), Tom Dauncey (TD), Joanne Williams (JW), Phil Chamberlain (PC), Richard Hedges (RH), Rebecca Davies (RD), Mel Bastier (MB), Dave Walker (DW).

Apologies: Craig Lambourne (CL), Carol Jones (CJ).

Minutes of the meeting held on 6th February were read and accepted as a true record by WH and PC.

Matters Arising.

 

Presentation Night was a great success, lots of responses from nipper parents saying how good the evening was. Next one due in December and a bigger venue needed.

 

Child protection course - Ongoing.

Kracka boards should be arriving to Gatwick on 4th July, Ray requested suggestions for method of delivery. DW recommended DHL.

Action Point: KB and WH to ask other clubs how they managed. 

 

RD’s work will hopefully hold a dress down day to raise funds for the club – Ongoing.

Email circulation lists for newsletters etc - Complete. Parents very pleased. WH suggested adding the Heritage Coast and Dunraven Estate to the list.

Action Point: PC to add these to the list.

WH to price tent/marquee for the beach from money donated from the channel paddle – Ongoing.

Action Point: KB to buy a tent in France when she visits in May.

 

WH has arranged disposal of old oxygen cylinders, just awaiting collection – Ongoing

DW has contacted the Vale of Glamorgan Council to try and clarify position regarding ownership of the buildings - Ongoing. The freehold is owned by Dunraven but still to establish who has the leasehold.

Team building day for seniors. TD still to gauge interest amongst Seniors. Many present expressed an interest. - Ongoing.

Former discipline problems – KB to oversee issue of club rules to all members- Complete. Thursdays and Friday nighters received newsletters. CL spoke to all Sunday nighters.

 

Dolygaer- Further discussion/planning required - On hold.

Sponsored Pyjama Swim completed, sponsor money still being collected.

Competitor of the Year Award - KB has started a spreadsheet recording points earned by competitors. Thursday & Fridays have completed a gala. No attendance at stillwater competition. Points gained from individual events only.

Welsh Stillwater - No attendance.  GB Stillwater - closing date passed.

Weekend training sessions - Ongoing.

Action Point: KB and TD to discuss training start date.

 

 Parent helper membership - WH spoken to individuals concerned and all are happy to join.

 Action Point: PC to issue letters and membershiop forms to relevant individuals.

 

CRB self certification forms - 8-9 still outstanding.

Action Point: WH to seek advice from Sian Parry re action to take if they are not returned.

SLSA Wales Youth Development course in Spain - Cancelled due to lack of interest. Will run next year

Gift Aid - Tick box to be added to sponsor forms as Gift Aid cannot be accepted from subscriptions.  

Junior Awards -  Sunday night Juniors to attend on Thursdays when taking awards so they don't miss out.

 

Patrols – No suggestions forwarded to WH so this year will continue the same as last year. Patrol hours may be reduced to 10am - 4pm.

NARS – KB to devise a rota for the instructors as the coaching will be shared between KB, WH, RD, CL and NH.

Individuals to be responsible for their own GB membership.

WH and KB are part of the SLSA Wales Technical Commission. They have all the information of qualifications.

Welsh Lifeguard Championships to be held on 16-17 August 2008. Venue required! - Ongoing

Proposed ski race from Porthcawl to Barry on 1/6/08, more details to follow. As yet this race has not been sanctioned by SLSA Wales - Start and finish venue may change. WH to keep us informed.

Correspondance

 

SLSA Wales require a treasurer.

SLSA Wales AGM being held on Sunday 9th March 2.00pm. Does anyone want to attend with KB and WH?

RLSS have stopped competitors diving from the blocks with a rescue tube. SLSA Wales say it's still ok during their competitions.

Any Other Business

 

WH. Female coach needed for Nipper Camp.

SLSA W has designed a new award - First Person On Scene. Award holders are to assist the Ambulance service. Volunteers requied to trial the award. Volunteers must be 18yrs +, no pre-requisite and no cost.

Will is looking to purchasing an IRB to be used during club patrol hours in summer. Written conformation from the Earl of Dunraven needed.

2 Doyles needed for the bigger nippers to help the transition from nipper boards to mals.

JH. Has 1st refusal of a Bennett board from a colleague. Does the club wish to buy it at £450? - Agreed.

2 boards will need to be removed to make room for the new boards arriving this summer, agreed Impacts should go.

Mini Leagues going well. Club were 5th after 1st week, not sure after 2nd. Hoping to have 2 teams (12-14 people) for the 3rd one.

Resignation received from Fiona, moving to Pen-y-Bont.

AW. Requested dual membership for Jo. KB to confirm rules with SLSA W.

RaD. Updated news re Kracka boards, see above.

MB. Requested club news to send to local newspapers.
